Facet Joint Pain

Facet joints are formed by the connections between the small bones in the spine. Like joint pain in your hands or knees, facet joint pain of the spine can be vague and change throughout the day. Facet joints are irritated with rotation or bending of your spine. They can radiate pain but usually do not cause pain beyond the elbow or the knee. RCIPS specialists can treat facet joints with direct injections or can treat the nerve supply separately. The nerve supply to facet joints is complicated but multiple levels must be treated to calm facet related pain. Once your pain pattern is determined, the medial branch nerves can be heated and quieted for 6-12 months.
